"Tears of Spring"
Acrylic Mixed-Media on Canvas
18"x24"
I've been experimenting with a different approach to preparing a painting surface that involves gluing mat board I've cut into shapes onto the canvas. I've found I can create a texture layer that can stand alone as a composition and be nearly as interesting as what I paint on it. This is the forth in a series completed. I've had fun mixing layers, abstract and cubist elements, and a variety of subjects. I'll try to get more posted!

A recent "value" collage created with a range of neutral papers...I made this as a classroom visual aid to the current project my Gifted students are working on...it always amazes me how much detail can be created when you focus only on contrasting light and dark shapes in a design...the pitcher shaped object is a stove top expresso maker...very common in Europe...the cup a favorite I bought on vacation at Sea Grove beach...
